Home builders are starting to see the light. The green light that is. Mercedes Homes revealed their commitment to helping the environment with the unveiling of the company’s second greener home in Brevard County. The ‘Green for Life’ program, was rolled out in Brevard County by showcasing a green-built home and introducing the company’s commitment to green building.
Scott Buescher, President of Operations for Mercedes Homes’, kicked off the program by mentioning, “Mercedes Homes’ Green for Life initiative combines earth-friendly technologies with reduced energy consumption and water conservation, translating into savings on utility bills and big benefits for generations to come.â€
Earlier in the year, Buescher announced the company was working toward adoption of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating Systemâ„¢. LEED is the nationally-accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. Buescher added, “We know we’re not totally there yet – but ‘Green For Life’ is a big step in the right direction.â€
And we completely agree. It is an exciting step forward to homes that are more energy efficient and use less water.
The green-built home in Brevard County includes numerous energy-saving, water-saving and air quality features. From Energy Star appliances and light fixtures to energy-efficient heating and cooling systems to carpet made of
recycled fibers and energy-efficient windows, a solar water heater and water-saving faucets, this home was built with the modern eco-friendly family in mind.
In addition, Mercedes Homes’ signature 6-inch solid concrete walls provide not only storm protection but better thermal storage for energy efficiency, as well as added strength and noise reduction.
“We’ve recognized the desire for more a more energy-efficient home, and we built this home with today’s home buyer in mind. They want a home that is not only beautiful, but one that will save them money, month after month, year after year,†added Buescher.
